About Amy

Hi, it’s nice to meet you!
I am so glad you’re here! I’m Amy, a wife of 19 years and homeschooling mom to 9 kids. We are debt free and trying to build up our small farm and homestead here in Texas a little at a time.
I’m a bit of a health nut, but with a major sweet tooth for the unhealthiest of treats, I’m passionate about homeschooling and raising good humans with a heart for God.
I love to share about how we manage a lot with a little, how to enjoy your kids and bring joy and fun into your homeschool. The importance of memory work and homeschooling through high school!

What you’ll find here lately…
Geography studies and recipes from around the world! In our homeschool, I like to gather my children together for learning whenever possible and geography is perfect for this. We study the world together, looking at and drawing maps, watching captivating videos of cool places, and exploring the globe. Each child learns at their own pace, but we are learning together! Our absolute favorite part of geography is learning about the culture and cuisines from all around the world! Everyone loves food, right? Food is a huge part of culture and of course this is fun for everyone!

Memory work in homeschool
I have been homeschooling now for about 12 years. What I have learned over the last decade has taught me that we don’t have to panic about the education that our kids are going to get. There are a few key things that most of us would like to know that our kids are going to learn for sure though! For a lot of these things, memory work is a great way to plug those things in. Repeated information will eventually sink its way into the soul. We have used memory work for just about every subject you can think of! It won’t replace traditional curriculum of course, but it can help you, as the mom and facilitator, to relax, knowing that you are covering the basics in an easy 10 minutes a day approach! This is a tried-and-true way that I have found absolutely works!

Because of this, I have created themed memory work bundles, “Firefly Memory Guides”, that will soon be available in my shop, so stay tuned!

Expecting
Fast forward a couple of years and I was expecting my first baby. The plan was for me to take off work for a few months and then go back to work. After the few months was up, I just couldn’t do it! Nothing about leaving my baby girl with someone else all day felt right to me. So, I didn’t.
Again, once she was inching closer to school age, that nagging feeling wouldn’t leave me. I couldn’t stand the idea of leaving her with strangers all day long.
So, I started looking into homeschooling. I actually had “homeschooled” through high school myself, so I was familiar with homeschooling, but in hindsight, I wouldn’t call what I did “homeschooling”. Mostly I was super unsure of how to even start.
I had an aunt that was homeschooling her kids, so I reached out to her for info. I researched as much as possible and sent videos and links to my husband to convince him. He wasn’t on board right away, but after agreeing to give it a trial run, and then slowly seeing the results over time, he was sold.
And we’ve never looked back!
Fast Forward 2016
moving to the Country
Add a descriptive title for the column.
8 Years ago, we moved our large family to the country!
This was what my heart longed for all along. Both my husband and I have fond memories of running through woods as kids (not together) and it’s some of the best memories we have. We wanted to give our kids a similar experience.
We began with the purchase of land 13 years earlier and my husband started building our Barn Home himself, Finances forced us to put that project on hold. And we dedicated ourselves to only moving forward debt free.
We decided to move a mobile home onto the property temporarily, until we could resume building. So, we officially moved in 2016.
2020 came and we finally sold our house in town and were ready to begin building. Then lock down happened because of Covid.
We haven’t resumed building, but that hasn’t stopped us from enjoying our farm life experience. We brought home a dozen chickens. Then a dozen more. And we’ve joyfully made the most of where we’re at!
My husband and I have changed and grown so much over the last 8 years. Our marriage is stronger than ever and our dedication to raising our family for God and homeschooling continues to grow.

If you’re new to homeschooling, in the thick of it, or would just like a friend to walk alongside you, you’re in the right place! Don’t be afraid to shoot me a message and say hi!
