Easy Sourdough Bread Rolls

Print Recipe
These Easy Sourdough Bread Rolls are so yummy and versatile! They can be used for sandwich bread, dinner rolls, or even hamburger buns. My family loves them and we use them in place of pretty much anything that requires bread. They taste delicious and will save you time!
Prep Time:5 minutes
Cook Time:25 minutes
Total Time:30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour I prefer bread flour
  • 1/2 tbsp salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar feel free to add a bit more if making dinner rolls.
  • 1 cup sourdough fed or discard (I have used both ways and they turn out great)
  • 1 1/4 cup water add a tbsp more at a time if dough is too dry.

Instructions

  • Mix together the flour, salt, and sugar.
  • Add sourdough and water and mix until well incorporated. (The dough may be sticky and that's ok! You don't want it dry. Add a tbsp water at time if too dry)
  • Place dough in fridge overnight covered with plate or towel.
  • Remove from fridge the next day. Oil hands and kneed for about 1 minute.
  • Divide dough into 8 pieces (16 if making dinner rolls)
  • Place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let rise in oven for 3-4 hours. You can turn on the bread proofing option on your oven or simply turn on interior light.
  • Once they are done proofing and have doubled in size, remove from oven.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake for 25 minutes.
  • Allow to cool and serve!

Notes

If you're using these for hamburger buns and you would like that nice golden top with sesame seeds, you can make an egg wash by whipping together an egg yolk and 1 tbsp. water and brush over top of buns. Then sprinkle sesame seeds on top of the wash right before baking!
