This chocolate graham cracker crust is super easy to make! It is deliciously sweet with a buttery texture and perfect to compliment your favorite no-bake cheesecakes or pie recipes!

Made using cocoa powder and regular graham cracker crumbs, you won’t have to hunt down any chocolate graham crackers! I don’t know about you, but I have a really hard time finding these locally. Of course, we all have the ability to order our favorite foods now, but I personally like the convenience of preparing last minute dessert recipes! Knowing that I can find all of my ingredients at a store close to me is always better.

With this recipe, you certainly won’t be disappointed with the addition of cocoa powder! It adds the perfect amount of chocolaty flavor for a delicious turtle cheesecake or whatever your favorite pie might be. Plus, you can add cocoa to pretty much any cookie or cracker crumb to get a nice chocolate crust!

Tips for making a chocolate Graham cracker crust:

If you like convenience, I recommend blending up some graham crackers in a food processor ahead of time. For me, this is the most time-consuming part, although, still pretty simple in the scheme of things. It’s a great time savor if you find yourself in the mood to make a quick pie! I blend up just enough extra at a time and place in a Ziplock bag to make a couple of pies. You don’t want to do too much at a time and have them go stale.

In this recipe I suggest baking this graham cracker crust, but if you’re making a no-bake pie, it’s not necessary to bake. You can just simply place in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before filling. I still prefer to bake mine either way because I’ve had better luck with it staying together and not crumbling when removing a slice of pie.

If you have trouble with your crust crumbling when removing a slice of pie, you can also try spraying your pie plate or pan with grease ahead of time. Depending on the climate you live in, you may need to cut down slightly on how much butter you add to your crust.

Ingredients needed:

  • Graham cracker crumbs
  • Cocoa powder
  • Granulated sugar
  • Butter (melted)

How to make a chocolate graham cracker crust:

First, you’ll need to preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

If using whole graham crackers to make your own crumbs, place crackers in a food processor and blend until you have fine crumbs. Or you can place crackers in a Ziplock bag and using a rolling pin to crush up.

In a medium sized bowl, combine the graham crackers, sugar, cocoa powder, and melted butter together until well combined. Use a fork to help break up any clumps.

Pour mixture into a 9″ pie plate and gently spread and press into bottom and sides of plate. You can use the bottom of a measuring cup for more even distribution.

Bake crust for 8-10 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely.

For a no-bake pie recipe that doesn’t require baking the crust, you can just chill in refrigerator for 30 minutes while preparing the filling.

Once the crust has completely cooled or been chilled, it is ready for pie filling!

This doesn’t require baking for no-bake recipes, but I have had better luck with my crusts sticking together when they are baked. So, I bake either way!
If you have trouble with the crust sticking to your plate when removing, you can try spraying your pie plate with grease first or you may need to decrease the amount of butter slightly to see if that helps.
