DIY Homemade Lip Balm

This homemade DIY lip balm is made using only 4 ingredients! It’s super fun to make with your kids and it makes for a great gift as well! Using all natural ingredients, such as beeswax, coconut oil, etc., this lip balm is super nourishing and can be customized with your favorite scented oils to smell exactly how you want.
What Oils are best for homemade lip balm?
There are many different essential oils out there that would be great! My absolute favorite scents for summer are grapefruit or lime! Lime and vanilla together are heavenly in my opinion, similar to a sweet limeade! Although, vanilla is good all year round as far as I am concerned.
You only need to be aware of what different oils do. Some are considered “HOT” oils, like cinnamon and clove and can cause a slight burning sensation. Some oils are photosensitive, such as lime and grapefruit, which means they can magnify the effects the sun has on your skin. You’ll just need to be cautious not to apply these on a day that you plan to spend out in the sun all day. These are still my favorite for summer, but you can always choose vanilla for an all-year balm!
Selah Oils are my favorite brand to use. Mostly because they are a Christian company with good values and the owner, Brittany, is truly the absolute sweetest, most genuine person. The oils themselves are of great quality as well.

What all is needed to diy your own lip balm?
- A double boiler (you can also microwave ingredients in a glass Pyrex measuring cup, about 30 seconds at a time, stirring between.)
- .5-ounce tin containers (For this recipe, we used these)
- Beeswax pellets (I like these, be careful to purchase genuine beeswax!)
- Coconut oil (This is my favorite)
- Sweet almond oil or sunflower oil
- Essential oils (Selah Oils are my favorite)

How to make this lip balm?
Place about an inch of water into the bottom pot of your double boiler and heat over low heat.
Place all ingredients, except for the essential oils, into the top bowl of your double boiler and heat over the water, stirring constantly until everything has melted.

Remove from heat and add your essential oils.

Pour into empty lip balm tins and allow to cool completely, about 10-15 minutes.

Now they are ready to use! DIY homemade lip balm makes for great gifts, stocking stuffers or teachers. Just about everyone loves lip balm!

Note
This recipe is versatile and very forgiving. You can add a little more of the almond oil to get a slightly softer balm or less to achieve a more solid one. Play around to see what you like best. Adding honey would be great to soften and add even more nourishing qualities! Beeswax can also be substituted using shea butter. It will turn out a bit different, but it would still make a great LIP BALM!
